Ralph Mott |
Sold Design for a Great Western Railway Poster
Signed l.r.: Ralph Mott
Gouache over pen and ink, 20 by 24 ins (51 by 61 cm)
Ralph Mott was a pseudonym for the work produced by the agency Ralph and Mott, who were responsible for some of the greatest and most memorable railway poster designs in mid twentieth century Britain. The present piece of artwork, amongst their most dramatic, probably dates from the period following the Second World War in the late 1940s, when many posters were aimed at encouraging the population to enjoy the attractions of London once more.
