One of the many views of Devon farms that Bevan made in his final years painting at nearby Luppitt on the Devon/Somerset border. The buildings at Stoneacre Farm provided such inspiration that he made two major paintings of the subject, the present work being one. A related study to this work in watercolour and charcoal is in the collection of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (acc.1993.10) (see below for image).
