The potter Eric Mellon began his artistic training as a printmaker book proudcer, studying from the end of the War at Central School of Art and Crafts. Central had trained many of the key AIA figures, amongst them James Fitton and Pearl Binder. The AIA lent particular support to the work of commercial artists, organising the touring exhibition Poster Design in War-Time Britain in 1943
